These Materials

I don’t know what to do with these materials. Make them into a bridle and a bit, smash my own teeth in its placing. My flesh wasn’t  designed for their holding.

I don’t know what to do with these materials. They pile up around me and I shrink from their place.

I don’t know what to do with these materials. I take them from their boxes and drawers. Turn them over, examen their shape, their weight in my hands. These things for looking on at slide from my familiar hell. It’s to those precious few to find a familiar heaven. Blacken the skies and all else; I need rest.

There is a place in the ink and we lie there, just living. Just being told our inferno is poetry.

These Materials is a self-portrait photo essay by Colleen Wilde. About the essay, from Colleen:

“I went through a life transition and found myself in a place of greater abundance for the first time, and I really fumbled hard because of it. It was as if my entire being didn’t know how to function outside of a survival state and I was looking for problems just to feel something normal. I had to go through a reckoning with it. So I started creating these idyllic images. Art has always been my way of processing things. I was able to achieve a balance between the dark emotional interior and these picturesque, ethereal images shot in these beautiful places. Travel, wanderlust has always been essential to my life and art, so I knew this essay would be shot across multiple locations. With everything around me feeling wrong, I wanted to create something that seemed ideal.”
